ABOUT US

We are
a Carmelite contemplative community
of women inserted into the local church.

Our Purpose:

To be a visible praying community
in the tradition of St Teresa of Avila,
in the context of our culture and environs.

To provide, as Sisters in Carmel,
mutual support and encouragement
in living out our calling in the church.

To provide a centre of participative
liturgy and worship.

To provide a welcome and listening ear
for all those who ask.

All this whilst respecting
our identity and its demands.

There are many options open to women today.
We would like to tell you about the option for God that is our vocation as Carmelites.

In Carmel we try to live in close friendship with Jesus. This life of prayer is not for ourselves alone. St. Teresa of Avila, our foundress, told us we should busy ourselves constantly in praying for the world. She insisted too, that we should pray especially for priests.

The hidden power of prayer is part of the mystery of faith. It has been truly said that "no man is an island" but there is a sense in which everyone is an island fortress, remote, inaccessible and often very lonely. At this level of human solitude only prayer can reach us. This is the inner aspect of suffering, its hidden face.

It is to this arena of mind and heart that the apostolate of the Carmelite nun extends.
